Bishop C. H. Mason Patterson, Sr. is continuing a legacy of service and progress on the foundation built by his forefathers. Bishop Charles Harrison Mason, Founder of the Church Of God In Christ, is his great – grandfather and namesake.
He has taken up the torch lit by his grandfather, the late Bishop J.O. Patterson, Sr., COGIC’s first elected Presiding Bishop and his father, the late Bishop J.O. Patterson, Jr., former Chairman of the General Assembly and He currently serves as senior pastor of Pentecostal Temple Church Of God In Christ.
Bishop C. H. Mason Patterson, Sr. was born September 11, 1976, to the union of the late Bishop J. O. Patterson, Jr. and the late Missionary Rose Kelly Patterson. He is the youngest of four children.
He was born a leader. He accepted the call to the ministry at the early age of 16. In August 1998, he was ordained an Elder in the Church Of God In Christ at the age of 21.
Through his life and ministry, Bishop Patterson has demonstrated a caliber of leadership well beyond his years. In Nov. 2004, Bishop Patterson was elected to the COGIC National Board of Trustees, the youngest person ever to win a seat on the 15-member body. During his time as a member of the Trustee Board, he also served as the Superintendent of National Properties. In April 2010, during the churches National April Call Meeting, Bishop Patterson was appointed Assistant Treasurer of the National Church. During the November 2011 General Assembly he was elected as the National Treasurer of the Church Of God In Christ, Inc. And on November 9, 2014, then the Elder Charles Harrison Mason Patterson, Sr., was consecrated to the Office of Bishop, during the 107th Holy Convocation held in St. Louis, Missouri.
He is a very humble, high-spirited servant of Christ who daily devotes his life to fulfilling his calling. Following in the steps of his father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he prays, fasts, and studies the Word of God daily in an effort to further appreciate the work that God has called him to do. Bishop Patterson wants nothing more than to have his cup run over with the love of God and the spirit of the Holy Ghost. His ultimate desire is to have God’s will fulfilled in his life.
The Patterson family has a long history of civic service to the City of Memphis and Bishop Patterson is no exception. He is the President and CEO of the C.H. Mason Patterson Community Development Corporation and former Housing Rehabilitation Specialist for the City of Memphis Department of Housing and Community Development.
Bishop Patterson studied Mortuary Science at the Northwest Community College in Desoto County, Mississippi and General Education Studies at Southwest Community College in Memphis. He has a certificate in Biblical Studies from Crichton College in Memphis. He is currently seeking a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Leadership with a concentration in Church Leadership from Union University.
Bishop Patterson is the proud husband of LaShaundra Cox Patterson, affectionately known as “Bonnie”, and father of two sons, Tyren and Charles Jr. and two daughters, Kelly Rose and Callie Indiana.
